Counselling and Psychotherapy in Sutton Coldfield, near to Birmingham and Lichfield

Introduction

Many people experience emotional problems at some stage in their life. Often these may be resolved without outside help but sometimes difficulties persist and so some professional help is sought. It is likely that you are reading this because you are, or someone close to you is, exploring the idea of finding help and looking for a psychotherapist or counsellor in Sutton Coldfield or Birmingham. These pages are designed to tell you about me and the service I offer.

Why do people see you?

Some people come to see me because of depression or anxiety, others because of relationship difficulties, low self esteem, bereavement, loss of purpose in life, to mention but a few of the reasons. If something has been troubling you for a while it is worth considering the "talking cure." [more details on next page]

What's the purpose of therapy?

I see the purpose of therapy as enabling you to live more fully and more rewardingly. Therapy can be the foundation for creative and sustained change and lead to the development of your full potential.

Who are you?

I have been working in this field since 1997 and am committed to providing counselling and psychotherapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. I am qualified both as a counsellor and as a psychotherapist registered with UKCP. [see qualifications page]

How do I choose a therapist?

The quality of the relationship with the therapist is widely acknowledged to be a more important factor than the model of therapy used. I work using a model known as psychodynamic. [see next page for more details.] It is important to take time to find someone with whom you feel comfortable sharing intimate details of your life. This is why I always arrange an initial appointment with no commitment to on-going work unless we both feel it would be beneficial to you.

What experience do you have?

Since 1997 I have worked in a variety of settings as well as in my own practice. For a number of years I was employed by the NHS to work in Adult Psychological Therapies Teams in north Birmingham. This means I have been a therapist for adult men and women, old and young, black and white, gay, straight and bi-, able-bodied and disabled presenting me with a wide variety of situations and life experiences.

Where are you?

My counselling and psychotherapy practice is within 5 minutes walk of Sutton Coldfield town centre making it accessible from other parts of north Birmingham such as Erdington, Great Barr and Streetly. It is also only 5 minutes walk from the cross-city railway line making it easy to come from the city centre, Selly Oak, Five Ways, Northfield. Walsall, Lichfield, West Bromwich and Tamworth are also within easy reach.

If you want to pursue therapy with me phone 0121 355 3795 or send me an email. We can have a brief conversation before considering arrangements.
